Skin tanning or skin lightening?

All you Caucasians out there are so obsessed with tanning, yet when it comes to us Asians, Africans, Latinas, etc. we want to lighten our skin, and you tell us that we're crazy for doing that!?

"Why do you want to whiten your skin?"

"Everyone's getting a tan!"

"You'll look like Michael Jackson if you do!"

err, no. We won't look like MJ. We want to lighten our shades naturally. We lighten our skin to even out our complexion, to have a healthy glow, etc.

We like the look of pale skin. Not the dead-zombie type, but more like...say, northern Chinese type. With long, raven black hair and moonlight pale skin. Also like Japanese Geisha too.

No goth-like, but I like goth look sometimes.

Anyway, which do you prefer? Skin tanning or skin lightening?

And why do you tan? And when it comes to the opposite (skin lightening), why do you oppose it when skin whitening also has safe alternative ingredients that don't contain hydroquinone?

Maybe it is racial and cultural thing?

Skin tanning or skin lightening?
you now people....always not contented of what they have.i would suggest tanning even if i myself is an asian woman because lighter skin means less melanin and is more prone to skin cancer....i love being tan!!!!
Reply:I have also been questioned for wanting to lighten my skin. People love my tan, but they don't understand. Having fair skin is important to some Asian women! Report It

Reply:skin lightening
Reply:I am a white female and I prefer to avoid tanning. I see so many white girls with tans it actually disgusts me. Don't they know that the sun does damage and they can get skin cancer? And when all these tan girls get older they will be wrinkled before their time. I am pale and I plan on staying that way. I use an SPF 55 sunblock everyday and a parasol (sun umbrella) when I am outside for longer periods of time. And most importantly, just love your skin!!
Reply:DUM *** QUESTION ,WHAT EVER THE PERSON FEELS
Reply:I know exactly what you mean I'm latin and during the summer i can so easily get darker. I'm like 5 minutes in the sun and i'm already 3 shades darker I hate it!!! my arms alone are 5 shades darker than the rest of my body...i'ts not a pretty golden tan either its ugly dirty looking and uneven!!!
Reply:I like to keep my skin the color that it naturally is. I'm white, but I'm part Portuguese, so I tan. I don't look so good tan, and I don't want skin cancer, so I wear sun screen all the time. I think that blond women (especially bottle blonds) with fake tans are the ugliest people around. Maybe that's just because I'm in California and they're a dime a dozen. I think that the natural variation of skin colors makes the world interesting, and we should all be happy with what we're given. Why ruin your skin for someone else's version of beauty?
